Weβve identified an issue with the Wormhole protocol that impacts token wrapping, specifically for certain tokens created on Pumpfun after September 12. Hereβs what weβve discovered and how it affects our platform:
Full details here: https://x.com/tokenwrap/status/1846237025306821051
Recently, Metaplex (the standard for SPL token metadata on Solana) changed the size of its metadata accounts from 679 bytes to 607 bytes. However, Wormholeβs token-bridge still verifies tokens based on the older 679-byte size. This size mismatch causes an attestation failure during validation, meaning tokens with the new metadata structure canβt be wrapped through Wormhole.
To maintain the highest security and ensure smooth operations, Tokenwrap will support wrapping for all Solana tokens except those created on Pumpfun after September 12. This limitation is due to Pumpfun tokens using the new metadata format, which currently fails the Wormhole verification process. As a result, any Pumpfun tokens created after this date canβt be securely validated across chains.
This restriction is essential to prevent the risk of unverified tokens being wrapped and transferred cross-chain, which could lead to security issues or even token duplication. By excluding these specific tokens, we ensure that only fully verified and secure tokens are wrapped on our platform.
Weβre closely monitoring updates from Wormhole and Metaplex and are ready to adjust as soon as this issue is resolved. In the meantime, Tokenwrap will continue to support secure, seamless wrapping for all other eligible Solana tokens.
